(Leah Wrobel in "Island") We are closing out this summer, experiencing a mixture of growing pains, anticipation, sadness and excitement. Truly this summer has been the most exciting one we've had yet. After a generous grant from the Maryland State Arts Council came through, we were able to provide a series of free and low cost performances and workshops to the community of Annapolis, MD. We were blessed with wonderful article in The Capital by Terri Winslow, and we were introduced to hundreds of new audience members through Dock Side Dance as well as Celebration of the Arts. In the midst of our success, we were faced with the reality of a bad economy as our intensive had to be canceled due to low enrollment. However, we are not thwarted and plans are in the making for next years Dance Repertoire Workshop.
Sadly, Danica Kalemdaroglu has decided to step down as Co-Artistic Director. Not to worry though, we will still be collaborating on a project by project basis as she will be remaining on board as an Artistic Associate. We wish her the best of luck with her new endeavour, DK Dance Productions, and look forward to all of the amazing things she will accomplish in the future!
This fall we enter into the studio to create, refresh and renew ourselves as a company. We continue to work steadily on "Bittersuite" and we are in the process of learning Stephanie Yezek's Quartet "In her Hands". Every rehearsal brings new movement and concepts and we look forward to exanding "Like a Peach" into a group piece as well as a possible collaboration with the AACC orchestra.
As always, we tenderly thank all of you who support us. The ball is rolling, and we are gaining momentum every day!
